Design objective
COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a substantial reshaping of daily life, with a notable surge in remote work becoming a permanent fixture for many companies. This shift has not only altered employment dynamics but also led to a significant increase in the amount of time individuals spend at home. Homes, traditionally seen as places of repose, have transformed into versatile spaces accommodating offices, gyms, schools, and more.
The overarching aim is to create homes that seamlessly cater to the diverse needs of our daily lives, acknowledging the newfound importance of versatile and adaptive living spaces.
DESIGN INSPIRATION: KOREA'S JOONG-JEONG

A central consideration was addressing the prevalent need for a connection with nature, particularly among those working from home. To fulfill this desire, the project aimed to integrate an outdoor experience into the indoor living space. Inspired by the traditional Korean architectural concept of Joong Jeong, which features a private central garden enclosed within the home, the design sought to evoke the sensation of being outdoors, promoting tranquility and a connection with the natural world.
IDEA SKETCHES
In alignment with the core concept, I translated my ideas into hand-drawn sketches for the house. Beyond the incorporation of the central courtyard, I meticulously calculated and designed the roof angles to ensure optimal sunlight exposure to the central courtyard. Additionally, I strategically integrated expansive bay windows throughout the house, strategically positioned to invite abundant natural light inside. This deliberate design choice not only enhances the overall brightness of the interiors but also creates an immersive experience, simulating the sensation of being outdoors while remaining within the confines of the house.

\This tangible representation of the envisioned space was crafted using a diverse array of materials such as foam boards, craft paper, miniature plastic cars and furniture, artificial vegetation, soft sponges, and more.
project summary
: This project aims to modify residential spaces, especially homes, in response to the challenges posed by COVID-19. Homes are now multi-functional spaces, serving as meeting places, offices, gyms, and schools. The main modification in this project is the incorporation of private outdoor space within the house. To address the challenges of social distancing and closures, I designed a central garden inspired by the Korean traditional ‘Joong Jeong’ structure. The garden encourages gardening, barbecues, and a mini-playground. I drew a floor plan of the house using AutoCAD and used SketchUp and V-ray to create the digitally rendered model.
