project summary
In this project, I sought to revolutionize the conventional concept of silent and rigid libraries, reimagining them as vibrant and inclusive spaces tailored specifically for children. Acknowledging the pervasive "No-Kids Zone" phenomenon in Korea, my objective was to contribute to the creation of a more child-friendly society through the establishment of a dedicated children's library.
This space transcends the traditional library setting, functioning both as a dynamic playground and a collaborative learning environment. It features distinct zones catering to diverse preferences, including the climbing zone, exploration zone, and general reading zone. The climbing zone engages children in physical activity by placing books at elevated positions on the walls, while the exploration zone encourages interactive and experiential learning. Meanwhile, the general reading zone provides a serene haven for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere.
This project not only addressed a personal concern but also showcased the transformative power of spatial design in addressing broader societal issues. By creating an engaging and child-centric library, I aimed to not only break down the barriers of the "No-Kids Zone" but also underscore the potential of thoughtful design to foster positive social change.
